Nurturing your Journey to Motherhood

Midwife-led Care & Midwife-led Birth

Expert midwifery, obstetric oversight, and coordinated care — from pregnancy to postnatal discharge

If you are pregnant and looking for maternity care that offers continuity, clinical rigour, and a known professional leading your care, midwife‑led care may be the right option for you.

At Network One Health, midwife‑led care is delivered as part of a structured maternity programme, within a private hospital environment, with clear escalation pathways and specialist support built in.

What midwife-led care means at Network One Health

Midwife‑led care means that an experienced, qualified midwife is your primary maternity clinician.

Your midwife:

  • Leads your antenatal care
  • Coordinates your testing, scans, and reviews
  • Attends your birth, where clinically appropriate
  • Supports your recovery and early postnatal care

She works within a coordinated clinical team that includes a medical officer and direct access to an obstetrician or gynaecologist when your pregnancy requires it.

This is not informal or stand‑alone midwifery. It is a governed clinical model, delivered within private hospitals, with written protocols and defined thresholds for escalation.

Your midwife‑led antenatal pathway

Your care begins with a comprehensive maternity assessment. From there, your midwife coordinates your antenatal care according to your risk profile and gestational age.

  • Regular antenatal consultations
  • Clinical examinations and monitoring
  • Blood tests and pregnancy screening
  • Ultrasound scans
  • Ongoing review of symptoms and findings

Appointments are not rushed. Your midwife has the time to explain findings, answer questions, and adjust your care plan where needed. When specialist input is required, it is arranged within the programme — you do not navigate referrals alone.

If you choose to work with a doula, she is integrated into your care plan as part of the extended support team.

Safety, governance, and escalation

Midwife‑led care at Network One Health operates within a formal clinical governance framework.

This includes:

  • Risk assessment at entry and throughout pregnancy
  • Defined escalation thresholds
  • Regular clinical review
  • Emergency skills competencies, including neonatal resuscitation

Your midwife, medical officer, and obstetrician share a single clinical record. If your risk profile changes, your care transitions within the same coordinated team — you are not transferred out or handed over to unfamiliar providers.

Postnatal Care

Care continues after birth.

Your midwife provides postnatal follow‑up focused on:

  • Physical recovery
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Infant feeding support
  • Newborn assessment and care

Home visits and a six‑week postnatal review are included.
You also have access to postnatal WhatsApp support for practical questions during the early weeks.

Midwife-Led Care Fees

Midwife‑led care at Network One Health is priced as part of a single, all‑inclusive maternity programme, rather than separate charges for each visit or professional.

Your journey begins with a comprehensive assessment fee of R4 600.

Following assessment, you receive one written, personalised quote covering:

  • Your midwife fee
  • Antenatal consultations
  • Delivery care
  • Hospital delivery fees within scope
  • Early postnatal care

Inclusive midwife‑led maternity care fees start from approximately R40 000.

Your final fee depends on your clinical needs, including pregnancy complexity, planned mode of delivery (vaginal or caesarean), required tests and scans, and whether this is your first or a subsequent birth.

There are no surprise invoices after delivery. Any change in fees follows a documented change in clinical scope.

Payment options

We accept:

  • Medical aid (with out‑of‑pocket gap arrangements where applicable)
  • Cash payments
  • Payment plans via third‑party credit providers

Is midwife‑led care right for you?

Midwife‑led care is suitable for women with low‑risk pregnancies who value continuity, a known care provider, and a physiological approach to birth.

Eligibility is confirmed through your assessment. If your pregnancy is high‑risk or outside our scope, we will tell you clearly and guide you to the appropriate specialist care.
